Understanding Toilets and Choosing the right one for you.

With so many different types of toilets it can be confusing to understand all the terminologies used on websites, in brochures and even when your chatting to a customer adviser on the phone or in a showroom. So please have a look at the images and information below which should explain all.

Hopefully i have answered most questions below but if there is anything else you need to know please email us info@bathcenter.co.uk

Toilets Explained.

The common initials/term that most people understand but not many can explain is WC. Simply stands for Water Closet and this is a term dating back hundreds of years but is still used today. If you were to read WC in any of our advertised toilets online, it simply means toilet and it isn't referring to a specific type of toilet.

Close Coupled Toilets:

Close coupled toilets have the cistern attached to the toilet bowl, (Cistern is the top half of the toilet where you will have a push button or lever to flush the toilet, bottom part is usually referred to as a pan or bowl) Images above show two close coupled toilets, the first one is an open back close coupled toilet allowing the installer to fit a pan connector on the back of the pan/bowl and take the waste pipe either left or right or straight out of the wall behind the pan.

Open back close coupled toilets allow for internal soil stacks and more fitting space in general if required. The close coupled toilet above on the right is a closed back option where the pan is fit close up to wall without a gap at the back. Usually the closed back close coupled toilets are installed as a horizontal outlet straight through the toilet wall.

Close coupled toilets are usually white they are now also available (albeit a limited range) in black.

Back to wall Toilets.

Back to wall toilets as illustrated above, The back to wall toilet pan is fitted against a dedicated toilet unit or a wall where a concealed cistern is installed.

Available in white or matt black.

High Level Toilets:

High Level Toilets have the cistern installed high above the toilet pan on the wall usually anywhere up to 2000mm in height, as illustrated above in most high level toilet designs the toilet is supplied with the chrome flush pipe set pan and seat (can be optional)

Low Level Toilets:

Low Level Toilets have the cistern installed against the wall (like the high level ones) difference being as shown above, the cistern is installed a lot lower (within arms reach) and obviously the chrome flush pipe set is a lot smaller. Again most low level toilets (items can be purchased separately) are supplied complete, seat usually additional, please read product information on all our toilets.

Other Toilet options explained:

Comfort height toilets, most manufacturers now include a comfort height selection, all toilets as above, but if it also states comfort height then the toilet pan/bowl is higher than normal (up to usually between 40-80mm). These toilets are ideal for the less able but in many cases now, some of our customers opt for a comfort height toilet because it's simply as stated, a little bit more height on the toilet pan is a pan more comfortable to sit on.

Our most popular comfort height toilet is the ICARE raised height wc.

Corner Toilets, At Bathcenter.co.uk we supply several corner toilets. Corner toilets have an angular cistern manufactured to fit into a 90 degree corner, this can be an ideal space saving solution for smaller bathrooms or ensuites.

Corner Toilet:

Wall Hung Toilets:

Wall hung toilet pans have a similar feel to the back to wall pans, but as stated in the name, they are wall hung, like a back to wall pan you would require a concealed cistern but a toilet cistern frame is also required. The frame is concealed like the cistern and this is what the pan is hung on to so it can support the weight when in use.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Question: What is a horizontal outlet?

Answer: The 4" outlet can be found at the back of the toilet and it is what your installer connects the pan connector too, for running your waste away. The horizontal outlet simply means the outlet at the back is straight.

Question: Do all toilets come complete.

Answer: No, most of our toilets are supplied complete but we do have options on our website where the seat can be additional (ie colour seat or standard close or soft close options) We also supply pans & cisterns seperatley so we always advise to read the product information that you are interested in, if you are still unsure then please don't hesitate to contact us via email - info@bathcenter.co.uk

Question: How long is the guarantee?

Answer: All our toilets are covered by the manufacturers guarantee. These can range from 1 year to several years. Guarantee information can be found in the product information but again if you require us to confirm any guarantee period then we will do so asap, please email info@bathcenter.co.uk
